不少青少年、小孩希望透過打籃球、運動，讓自己長高，羅福松, 林口長庚醫院兒童內分泌暨遺傳科主治醫師, 提醒，小孩大量喝含糖飲料，容易干擾生長激素、影響身高發展。

當然，不只飲食、生活習慣影響身高，疾病也是重要因素。像生長激素缺乏、罹患透納氏症候群等，都會造成身高發展遲緩，此時可能就要考慮補充生長激素。

楊先生現在身高172公分，因為天生罹患生長激素缺乏症，導致13歲時身高比同學矮小，當時身高約130公分，經過治療、每天注射生長激素，加上打籃球、運動、注意飲食、生活習慣，身高拉長40多公分。

長時間關心此議題的中華民國兒童生長協會提醒，家長一旦發現孩童身高發展嚴重落後，務必帶小孩到醫院接受進一步檢查。
